Music Repertoire

Biographical Notes

Pianist Per Enflo was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1944. In addition to piano, he studied conducting and composition. His teachers include Bengt Utterström and Gottfrid Boon (a student of A. Schnabel), (Sweden), Bruno Seidlhofer (Austria) and Geza Anda (Switzerland). At the age of 11 he gave his first solo recital in a professional recital series and at the age of 12 he was the soloist in eight performances of Mozart's 19th piano concerto with the Royal Opera Orchestra of Sweden. In 1956 and 1961 he was the winner of national Swedish competitions for young pianists. He made his official debut in the Stockholm Concert Hall in 1963.

Since then, he performs frequently in recitals as a soloist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and  accompanist. In all these different areas he has been praised for his extraordinary musical sensitivity and insightful interpretations. He has also been noted and praised for his deep knowledge of the music literature. Just his repertoire for solo piano – spanning from Bach to contemporary composers – would be enough for more than 30 full solo recitals with totally different programs, to be performed with short notice. After working extensively with instrumentalists and singers since his childhood years he has also large repertoires in those areas. Likewise he has been  noted for his abilities to sightread and transpose. Once he successfully, on the spot, transposed the piano part of Schubert's Trout Quintet, in a performance where the piano had turned out to be tuned ½ tone too low.

He has appeared as guest artist in several International Chamber Music Festivals including Plovdiv and Sofia (Bulgaria) and Norrtälje (Sweden). He has recently given solo recitals in many parts of the world, including Tartu (Estonia), Tel Aviv (Israel), Athens (Greece), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and in Sweden Stockholm and Linköping.

In the US, Enflo has been the soloist in 13 different Mozart piano concertos  with the Triune Festival Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio, a yearly event since 1987.  He is a member of the New Amici Trio,  and he performs frequently with violinist Hristo Popov.  Enflo and Popov have recorded albums together and recently they gave a concert series with all the 10 Beethoven violin sonatas. As a soloist Enflo gives several piano recitals every year in the US. Enflo has also performed frequently with the music faculty at Kent State University, where he held the position of University Professor. Many of Enflo's performances, as well as recent solo piano recitals, have been broadcast on the WOSU Classics Network in Ohio, and in Bulgaria and Sweden.
